A few weeks ago I bought a set of Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 tires in 195/55/15 flavor from TireRack. Up until then, I was driving on Kumho Ecsta ASTs, a supposed “all-season” tire. The fact of the matter was, those all-seasons from Kumho got absolutely no traction in the snow. My car would be sliding all over the place and just spinning tires through the gears.
Today was my first real test run with the new Blizzaks mounted and I love them! We had about 2 inches of snow last night and the roads were still fairly well covered this morning. I was whizzing (read: crawling) past other cars on the interstate with no problem at all. This leads me to believe that there are really only two kinds of tires out there: summer and winter. If a company is claiming their tire is an all-season tire, that basically means it covers all of the seasons if you live in California where they don’t get any snow in the winter.
So if you’re looking for a good set of tires to battle through the winter with, I definitely recommend the Bridgestone Blizzaks.
