These heavy duty dual valve springs are an upgrade for 8v cars 1996 and up. This set includes lower spring seats. Recommended for high RPM use (over 7,000 RPM).

The reason that these valve springs are for 1996 and up 8v cars  is because VW changed the valvetrain design when OBD2 came out. OBD1 motors have the stronger valve springs already and this upgrade gets the OBD2 8v motors back up to par.

Part Number:  109.084R

Notes: Requires upper valve spring retainers.

    Installation:
I gave this a 2 for the amount of work and tools needed for the average DIY’er. If you are not mechanically inclined and are unfamiliar with your engine, have a professional install these for you. Removal of the upper intake manifold, valve cover, camshaft, cam followers (lifters), spark plug wires, and spark plugs are required for this upgrade. Also required are 2 specialty tools; First is an overhead valvespring compressor. Good luck finding one of these. And second is a fitting for an air compressor that screws into the spark plug holes in the head. An alternative for those without an air compressor is to use a length of thin nylon rope to feed into the spark plug hole. Either are required to keep the valve from falling into the combustion chamber during spring removal/installation.

    Performance:
Tectonics Tuning’s HD valve spring upgrade is a necessary item when doing a camshaft upgrade with lifts exceeding .432″ of overall valve lift, or when you upgrade to a high performance cam where high rpms will be sustained (i.e. and form of racing). TT’s HD springs work well with lifts exceeding .460″ and keep valves from floating when rpms pass 7500rpms. The set I run in my head has been going strong for over 7 years now without a single issue.
Please note: For OBDI/OBDII German heads, the springs only are required for an upgrade. Mexican OBDII heads require the springs, dual valve spring seats, and dual valve spring retainers. The OEM single valve spring retainers will NOT work with dual springs.

    Overall:
I give this valvetrain upgrade a 4. They operate flawlessly, but due to the work and specialty tools necessary to install them, it might put it out of reach for the average DIY’er.
