Techtonics Tuning 268 Hydraulic Camshaft (8v)
This hydraulic camshaft for the 8v engine is labeled as a street/sport cam. The reason is that the 268* is actually a factory high performance cam from VW.

Installation:
I rated this a 3 on the scale due to the fact that other valve train parts have to be updated with this camshaft. Due to it’s .440″ lift, it requires a dual valve spring conversion for Mexican OBDII heads only. Also highly suggested is getting your ECU chipped for this cam to re-adjust timing/fueling tables and to raise the idle speed to smooth it out during idle. And along with those, new cam followers (lifters), camshaft oil seal, valve cover gasket, and upper intake manifold gasket are absolutely required for this camshaft upgrade. If you are not mechanically inclined, I highly suggest having a professional do the head work.
Performance:
I gave this cam a 4 in terms of performance due to the fact that it provides a good bump in top end performance with supporting bolt-ons. The Techtonics 268* camshaft is a copy from the 268* VAG used in the Brazil domestic market. It was considered their “Fast Road” cam. It provides a great power increase from 3500-5500rpms. It’s idle characteristic is considered lumpy due to the valve overlap, even with a raised idle speed. This camshaft is the ideal upgrade for both OBDI & OBDII ABA’s without the need of having your head ported. Lastly, this is NOT a camshaft to be used with forced induction.
Overall:
: 3I give this cam 4. Power increase is great, but the cost of this upgrade adds up due to the valve train upgrade and ECU chip necessary.
