Autotech Adjustable Cam Gear (8v)
Filed under EngineAutotech’s adjustable cam gear for the 8v is built entirely of both 6061 & 7075-T6 aluminum. The design is cut via CNC and the main portion is hard-anodized for durability. The inner hub is anodized red. The gear includes all factory timing marks, laser engraved, to ensure simple, accurate installation. Autotech uses ARPĀ® stainless flange-head screws to keep the gear held solidly at the desired setting.

The install is as easy as replacing a stock cam gear with one exception, you have the ability to then adjust the cam timing to suit your needs. It works the same as most adjustable gears in that the outter section is separate from the inner and they are secured together by 6 hex key screws in matching slots. With adjustment from -10 to +10 infinately, you can set it exactly where you like it, and with a shaved head, you can compensate for differences in the front side timing belt length accurately, then adjust the cam timing from there.
Install takes more than a shade tree knowledge, a bently is a must, and some specialized tools like the timing belt tensioner tool (pin wrench).
All in all, it’s one of the toys that a true “tuner” would need.
My only real concern is the hex key screws that secure the timing, these should be removed before installation and the threads coated with antiseize. They are soft metal, and we all know what happens when that sits in a hot and wet place for a long time.
