I'm almost happy with the Hectiva, just going to standardize the interior, re-adjust the front camber, source some amber corners and leave it be Smile

Now to finish the other euro thang; I received my replacement headlights from NZ yesterday and immediately began installing my painted and projected inserts into them; Only to realize that the rear of the projector fouls on the housing Mad

So now i'm going to have to push the projector further in forwards towards the glass to give me enough clearance to still utilise the cap and retain a sealed headlight.

Over the weekend i'll need to find another fitting to step up a size for the shroud so that I can cover up the bulb reflector because once I push it through it'll be exposed. And before you say anything, no I won't be able to use the end cap the way it is atm, i'll be modifying it by cutting a hole in the center and plastic welding a "cup" on the end Wink

Can the glass flutes be sanded down so that they don't disrupt the projector light output?

pics for googling...

when the replacement lights arrived I threw them on to see if they were all good

The difference Laughing

and the shitty part

Hopefully some positive updates over the weekend...

Also engine parts are being boxed and tagged for delivery to 101 Motorsport, so the mechanicals are getting love too at last! Cool

i don't think it can. the glass is molded into place, if you sand it it will loose it's transparency

There was a guy on the tex that started sanding down the flutes on plastic NA lights from the inside. wetsanded, and polished them, pretty cool mod.

*edit: sallad used early mk3 glass lenses, not plastic.

ok cool, the filling with a clear coat paint sounds interesting though you wouldn't think it's be optically clear once dried?

A mate on a another forum replied with:

1. Buy a pair of plastic lenses
2. Mark the outside of the lens with a circle using a Sharpie where the projector is.
3. Use 60 or 80 grit sandpaper in a circular pattern on the inside where you marked, careful not to wander into the other fluted areas
4. Progress to 220 grit until all deep scratches are gone
5. Progress to 400 grit with water grit until you see a uniform haze without scratches
6. Progress to 1000 grit with water until it looks clear with water
7. Progress to 1500 or 2000 grit and get as smooth as possible. When dry, they should look about like Scotch tape.
8. Use Megiar's PlastX to polish until perfectly clear.

it's a diy from some volvo owner who did it successfully!

So once the projectors are in i'll mark where they hit the glass and sand away a nice circle Cool

not sure, as that guy didn't fully sand his smooth, he used a clear paint to fill in the left over grooves.

And I only just noticed yesterday that on the above diy from my post is that number 1 states that you need to buy plastic lenses?? wtf? lol, must just be a volvo thing?!

anyways, ima pop into my nearest glass place and ask them before I fuk mine up (again)!
