In the thread and in his blog post, GT R4C3R mentioned that he was fairly unimpressed with the drag racing portion of Waterfest. What he failed to mention was that the fastest car of the day was a Mk3! Leg0man filled us in on the details for the car:

“The winner of the event, with the fastest time and highest speed this year was a mk3! It’s a car from a shop local to me, AutoXtrem. Their best pass was a 10.36 @ 143.29mph.”

Upon further inspection, it looks like AutoXtrem is located up in the Great White North (Quebec to be more specific).

Since I don’t speak or read French (Marc Hubert recently confirmed for me that he and the Autoxtrem team speak English just fine), I can’t make much out of their website, but they do have some project photos and a video of their 10-second dragstrip pass.

Each time, when I get back home afterwards and start thinking about my Mk3 and all the time and effort that have gone into it so far, I realize there’s no way I could part with it and move on.

The ‘You Know You Drive a Mk3 When…‘ thread in the forum is one of my favorites of all time and I can agree with nearly every statement there. When parking my car at work in the morning, I always find myself turning around and looking back at it, several times in fact, before finally heading in.

There’s just something about these cars that always pulls you back. Maybe its the stout, stodgy build. Maybe its the bodyline just below the windows. Maybe its because it has that old school feel while still sporting newer features.

It’s different for every Mk3 owner, but there is something.

The next time you’re thinking about throwing in the towel and giving up, stop by the site and flip through the forums, or just take a drive. It’ll all come back to you quickly.

We love these cars and there’s no way we can turn back.

I thought I had seen some bad speed bumps in my day, but this is just ridiculous.

Anyways, my wife and I bought a new house about a week ago and I hadn’t added any pictures to the blog yet. Here are a few shots, one with the wife’s Beetle.

And with all of the front railing space, I just had to throw up the Projekt German banner. The wife didn’t like it too much.

Also, my Eurosport bars arrived last week from NGP. I’m still trying to find time to get over to my old garage and get them both installed.

It’s getting colder this week too so I need to bolt them on soon or they’ll end up sitting in the house til spring…

It’s a package from my buddy Al at DubMissile with a sample of some of his badges. My favorite are the “Vento” and “Düb Way” badges.

He sent a package to Ray from rayray’s garage as well. The story behind the three of us is kind of strange. We all live on different continents, started blogs about our Volkswagens and one day all stumbled into each other. Each of us talks with the others on a semi regular basis and its fun to hear about what other enthusiasts halfway across the world are doing with their cars. And to tell you the truth, this little package from across the pond made my day. Go check out Al’s blog and buy some of his badges.

E.T.C. Productions L.L.C. (Euro Tuners of Colorado) is a group of volunteer Euro car enthusiasts hoping to grow and expand the European auto sport scene in Colorado and abroad. Studded, our first project, is going to be a full-length, all-Euro Colorado action video showcasing local auto sports and events, not to mention the vehicles we love so much. Everything from car shows to drives to drag racing and track days. Any Euro is invited to attend any of our tapings and photo shoots. Studded is set to be released late 2007.

And the deeper meaning behind the project:

Our goal with Studded is to raise money in order to get Euro Tuners of Colorado from an LLC to a full-fledged Non-Profit Organization. Several of us are already involved in local charity and fund-raising events to help the community, but we saw the need to create an organization to unite the various smaller factions of Euro car groups throughout the state and offer a state recognized body to plan large events and shows with. If successful, we will expand the resources to raise money for local charities as well as offer a group of like-minded people an outlet to share interests.

Studded is set to be released on December 7, 2007, (just in time for the holiday season) and you can find their three pre-release trailers on YouTube.

Like Ray mentioned, there is some awesome Mk3 coverage in the video, and like all the other stuff that wagenwerks has done, this video will not disappoint.

She absolutely loves the car and I must agree that it’s fun to drive. Tonight we added silver Projekt German decals to the rear side windows, the car’s first mod! (Well, besides the air freshener she bought, lol.) I’ve already started digging into some New Beetle websites like NewBeetle.org in search of mods and ideas from other people are doing. I did manage to find a really slick Cyber Green Beetle built by a guy who goes by SMG on NewBeetle.org. He also has the 2.0 motor, though he’s strapped on a Neuspeed supercharger and is pushing roughly 130hp to the wheels, a decent gain over the 93whp the car had stock.

That’s it for tonight, but now I’ve got to keep the blog up to date on TWO Volkswagens.
