Yesterday I passed the Mk3Love link out to some friends to get their opinions and feedback. One area that needed to be tweaked was the forum layout. I knew it would need some work as it was hastily installed yesterday morning, but I think I’ve got it to a point I’m happy with now.
Originally I had kept the width of the forums to the same size as the website/blog, around 800px. However, that proved to cause some problems when users started posting pictures. Even for smaller resolutions, 800×600 pictures are fairly common. When an 800px wide photo was posted in a thread it would break the forum template and cause everything to shift around. To fix this I bumped the forum width up to 1024px and centered it under the unchanged nav menu. This allows 800px pictures to be posted without breaking the template AND it keeps the same look for the website. One thing that is really important to me is keeping everything cohesive. This option seems to do that well.
