2. Schwab VW Tuning Day

Sunday, June 8th, 2008 | 1 Comment »

The Schwab VW Tuning Day is still a relatively new event to the German Volkswagen community - first established in 2007, the event organized by Volkswagen dealership Autohaus Schwab proved to be quite the success and was sure to make a repeat performance this year. And by no means did it disappoint!

Held on the grounds of the shopping center Metro in the city of Neuss in North-Rhine-Westphalia, the show offered quite some space - and even around 400 parking spaces with a roof. As the whole Metro parking lot was filled almost completely, attendance was estimated to be over 500 cars.

There were even some Mk3Love members attending the event - namely Tornado with his Vento Variant Syncro and Shadow with his bagged Golf. I spoke to Tornado briefly and chatted a bit longer with Shadow - both proved again that Mk3Love users are nice guys in general.

All in all it was a good event with many nice cars and I for one am hoping that it will get another repeat next year - because I want to be there.

Not everyone can claim that they have owned a Mk3 GTI as their first car – certainly not in Germany, where most first cars usually play in the league of 45 and 60hp cars. The owner of this fine example can claim it, though – which brings us to our first Mk3Love Feature Car.

Team VW-Speed.nl 6th Annual Midwintermeeting

Holding a car show in February is not all that usual, but the guys and gals from Team VW-Speed.nl didn’t care about that and created their Midwintermeeting. This time was actually the sixth time the show was held, and judging from the big turn out of cars, it was quite the success! The show was held on the area of “Frans Op Den Bult”, a Dutch truck-stop kind of thing which made for a big space to fill with cars - and they succeeded as by noon the whole place was filled up with Volkswagens of all kinds. Watercooled, aircooled, new, old, modded, stock, ratty - you name it, it was probably there.

Around 8.00am we (my friend Sergej and I) started our journey to the Netherlands. The show started at 10.00am and we had about 200km to cover. Even though my car was freshly washed the evening before, it didn’t look like it when we arrived. It had rained all night and the roads were still quite wet, so the car was relatively dirty when we arrived - but we figured it was okay, after all we drove 200km to get there, we were allowed to have somewhat dirty cars.

When we hit the area of the show, there was already a long line of cars waiting to be let in, so we knew that we were definitively in the right place.

We arrived around 10.30am (and it just so happens that after we arrived my driver’s door handle broke) - by that time there was already a good number of cars on location, but later on it seems the numbers almost doubled. By 12.00am the place was packed.

Just after our arrival
