Team VW-Speed.nl 6th Annual Midwintermeeting

Holding a car show in February is not all that usual, but the guys and gals from Team VW-Speed.nl didn’t care about that and created their Midwintermeeting. This time was actually the sixth time the show was held, and judging from the big turn out of cars, it was quite the success! The show was held on the area of “Frans Op Den Bult”, a Dutch truck-stop kind of thing which made for a big space to fill with cars - and they succeeded as by noon the whole place was filled up with Volkswagens of all kinds. Watercooled, aircooled, new, old, modded, stock, ratty - you name it, it was probably there.

Around 8.00am we (my friend Sergej and I) started our journey to the Netherlands. The show started at 10.00am and we had about 200km to cover. Even though my car was freshly washed the evening before, it didn’t look like it when we arrived. It had rained all night and the roads were still quite wet, so the car was relatively dirty when we arrived - but we figured it was okay, after all we drove 200km to get there, we were allowed to have somewhat dirty cars.

When we hit the area of the show, there was already a long line of cars waiting to be let in, so we knew that we were definitively in the right place.

We arrived around 10.30am (and it just so happens that after we arrived my driver’s door handle broke) - by that time there was already a good number of cars on location, but later on it seems the numbers almost doubled. By 12.00am the place was packed.

Just after our arrival

We met two fellow Mk3Love.com users, namely Tornado with his green Syncro Variant and Marcello with his bagged Golf, which actually stood in the show and shine area. They both were nice to talk to and just confirmed that Mk3Love users in general are really laid back dudes. We also spotted Jettameister’s car but sadly we didn’t meet him.

We didn’t stay for the whole show - we left relatively early at 14.30. Around 13.00am or so, many people started to leave. We were in quite a good spot for taking photos of the leaving cars then, one of these actually circled back and came by us again so we took another photo. The two guys in the car seemed really happy when we shot another pic.

There was quite a number of packed roofracks

All in all it was a good show and I can definitely say that if there’s going to be a repeat performance next year then I’ll be there!

I wish I could have been there. Great coverage of this event, Dr. AK. :) I’m glad some of our Mk3Love members were able to meet in person. Everyone’s cars looked really good.
